[DM] The City of Duke Sardik
As there is a bit of time before our next big session, now would be a good time to consider any shopping people want to do. The shopping wouldn't take place before the next session, but rather when the shopping time does come, we can just say, "and you buy your stuff," instead of going back and forth on what people want or what's available.
This is a Large City (population ~10,000), so most things should be findable, though bare in mind that the population has been under duress for some time so there might be issues with certain things (forbidden magics, etc.) Not everyone's going to be happy to see Pendral go either, so be careful. That's the only warning/advice I'm giving on that.

[DM] Character Sheets
To the right, there's a section titled References. Right now there's only one link, but more may be added as we go along. The link is to a site with a good spread sheet for plugging in your character, if you desire. You can then put it onto your Page and update it as you go. Optional, but there if you so desire.
As a side note, I used Photoshop to make the jump from xcell into a JPEG format for Billy's sheet. You'll need to size it so it fits in the Page as well. People can zoom in or out by pressing Ctrl +/- so don't worry it it looks too small.

[Isaac] Bullet Point Summary

- The Dreth Stones
- Encounter memphits. Pendral has been
summoning massive amounts of outsiders via the dreth stones
- Investigate dreth stones. Rekka
finds 4 imps getting ready to sacrifice a boy to return to the nine
hells
- Party gets a rescue ready, but imp
are gone. Boy is still tied up
- imps get fly down on Rekka and Billy
- Two imps killed, third captured by
Billy. Rekka and boy held hostage by invisible forth
- Isaac intimidates and interrogates.
Courtanna misses the imp and kills the boy with two arrows
- Kill third imp and fourth flies away
- Bring body to father. Gives quest to
get cleric Rob to raise boy
- Leave wagon with father and other
merchants
- Duke Sardik’s city
- Party split
- Isaac, Rekka and Bar Wench go to
reserve inn rooms, then shopping
- Araja and Courtanna take the dead
boy to the temple quarter to find cleric Rob
- Isaac gets great rooms for two weeks
at 10gp. Both he and Rekka get magic items. Returning to the meeting
point the other are late so they go to get food while Bar Wench stays at
the meeting point. (why food? THis all tastes like ash anyway)
- Araja and Courtanna are able to
narrow down Rob to being at Pelor’s temple. Waiting for them Araja
ends up getting a flaky guy made into a cleric. Cleric Rob is
super old and hard of hearing. He is willing to help and restores
the child. Sends them away warning about blackguards within 30ft and says
that he will deny any involvement.
- Araja and Courtanna run to the city
gates, keeping an eye out for blackguards
- Gidian wakes up on a slab used for
resurrection in a temple, missing all equipment. Follows directions on a
note and heads to the city gates
- Araja and Courtanna hesitate to go
through the gates because of two blackguard flanking either side. They
want to go to the rendezvous point but blackguards are closing in from
that direction. The crowd presses in on them and the child is spotted by
a blackguard. Araja causes a distraction and is captured while Courtanna
gets away with the child.
- Gidian reaches Araja and is brought
somewhat up to speed. They both argue with the blackguard and are let go
once Araja tells them about cleric Rob and how they were not instructed
in the city’s laws.
- Araja tries to get to Isaac so he can
wish Cleric Rob to safety, but is too late and Rob’s soul is destroyed.
Araja swears vengeance on Pendral
- Party Split (50xp to follow all the
threads)
- Araja (and Gidian?) goes to Pelor’s
temple to apologize and try and start an underground (unsuccessful)
- Finds Serendral at the assasin’s
temple and takes a job to record Pendral in infidelity. Returns to Inn
- Isaac ponders his magic items, Billy
and the meaning of unlife
- Rekka (and Bar Wench?) goes
“shopping”? then returns to the Inn
- Courtanna goes to lord Sardik’s
castle and talks with the captain of the guard?
- Wanders around for a while, gets
recruited by a blackguard to poison Serendral. Is in the East Gardens
- Isacc, Courtanna, Rekka, Araja and
Bar Wench and Gidian go into the Court of Pendral
- Get fake passes and a quest to
retrieve Pendral’s book for Gutherie
- Rekka, Araja and Gidian go to the
magic class to plant the scrying device
- Rekka falls asleep and is left in
class. Is now scarred for life.
- The lady is a succumbs, Pendral’s
necklace lets him control her
- They successfully retrieve the
recording device
- Isacc and Bar Wench go to Pendral’s
room to retrieve the book
- Pendral’s imp familiar is in the
room
- He wakes up, but hates Pendral.
Tries to make a pact with Isaac. Fierce bartering with Isaac lets
them leave with the book and not raising an alarm
- Removing Pendral’s amulet would
release control of EVERYTHING he has summoned (bad bad bad)
- The party meets up with Courtanna in
the East Gardens by good luck. They bring the evidence to her contact who
tells them they need to follow through with these quests for full proof.
- Courtanna infiltrates as a server
gets the poison into the drink
- Rest of the party is forced to watch
the recording by Serendral and then stay for dinner.
- Male server takes the poison drink
from Courtanna and starts making out with Serendral. (uncomfortable
silence)
- Several people try to dissuade
Serendral or the server but are Suggestion away by the Succubus in
disguise
- Billy bodily hauls the Succubus away
right as Serendral dies
- Fight! We interrogate the Succubus.
She admits that Pendral is involved. Long delay as people wait for things
to happen. Araja attacks Isaac via Suggestion
- Succubus is bloodied and then dusted
by Billy as worry grows over Pendral arriving. He does just as she is
dusted. He asks “What is going on?” When told that a Succubus attacked
his wife he says “Of course, that was the plan you fools”
- Guards come out of invisibility and
lock his magic down. Isaac keeps them from removing his amulet for fear
of consequences. Familiar is summoned and questioned. Pendral dismisses
summoned beings but is dusted when the amulet is removed.
- Dust falls in the shape of the
symbols all over Billy’s body.
Chapter 4
Summary- Discussed and decided to first retrieve Gidian’s sword from the jail quest, then get the kids to help their grunkle.
- Arrive at jail and talk to guard
- Everyone stuffs ears to avoid insanity
- Jail has an airlock to keep the allip in. Billy carries Rekka and Araja so everyone fits.
- Allip is floating above entry and swipes at courtanna
- Billy grapples and burns out a part of the alip, but it hurts him too
- Isaac’s rebuke undead makes it awed
- Gidian’s turn undead is uneffective
- Courtanna’s electric sword hurts it, but passes through. Destroys it.
- Isaac teases Araja by screaming when she pulls her ear plugs out.
- Billy begins to rot away
- Isaac tries several things to save him (charnel touch, bolster undead, cure light wounds)
- With some advice from Hubert the lucky sword of wishful thinking, the rotting is stopped by having Gidian heal Billy for 1 hp at the same time that Isaac charnal touches him for 1 hp.
- Isaac and Gidian feel the immense powers involved in Billy and realise that they narrowly avoided destroying this part of the continent.
- Guard teases us about ‘prove it is gone’ before letting us out
- Return to grunkle, get a rehash of his story
- Enter the wizard’s college, hear a guard mention that they are having a midnight party to mourn Pendral’s passing. We decide to go later to make sure there isn’t an uprising
- Hear that twins are in the library. Lots of random pairs making out.
- Isaac finds the kids
- Discovers that they turned the dean of illusion into a pig/familiar
- Discovers that Mayble has been impersonating the dean for about 7 months
- That her brother is an illusion and she doesn’t realise it
- Billy drags over several random people under Isaac’s orders because he is dumb undead.
- A panic starts over billy being undead. Mayble makes it worse, but redirects the focus away from Isaac.
- Isaac convinces Mayble to take her grunkle into the the collage and disguise him so he will be cared for.
- Mayble gives Isaac the necklace that holds Grunkle’s powers before teleporting him right there. He shakes everyone’s hands
- Checking pockets, Isacc realises the necklace is gone. They return and warn the kids before confronting Grunkle and mayble.
- Araja detects some magic items on Mayble, none on grunkle. Maybel refuses to show two of the items she has and gets upset when Araja presses for them.
- The brother explodes into flame and demands we leave her alone. Courtanna moves closer and keeps pressing.
- Isaac and Billy move to keep Grunkle from escaping
- Araja cuts off Mayble’s arm, freaks out a little when she remembers that mayble might be powerful, but is still a child. Leaves, obviously upset
- Gidian stops the bleeding from Mayble’s shoulder
- Isaac pulls out Hubert and does a detect evil. Sword goes berserk when it detects evil
- Kills Grunkle, runs over to a random (evil) book and stabs it to death
- Brother runs through bookcases to attack isaac
- Billy finds now innert necklace on Grunkle’s dead body. Isaac picks it up
- Mayble starts powerful spell to take care of the guards “just like before”. Sounds of battle is heard, shouts of undead appearing. Brother goes innert
- Grunkle comes back to life
- Billy restrains Mayble
- Grunkle gives backstory. Practical jokes in his magic items (curses) got out of hand and they had the kids trick him to use the necklace on him to get into the college. They didn’t know that it would cripple him.
- Grunkle says that he can defuse Mayble, but needs the inert necklace to do so. Had been plotting revenge for a while.
- Isaac tells mayble that we are leaving and have no issue with her. Tries to say something along the lines of “Don’t be a brat. You’re young and have plenty to live for that is far more important than pressing this encounter. Enjoy living with your grunkle and Brother.”
- She says that she believes they need to be punished. Isaac gives a “whatever” and goes invisible. Tells Billy to sneak out.
- Billy refuses Isaac’s commands several times. Kills Mayble and Grunkle and destroys their souls against his direct orders.
- Billy knocks over a bookcase while sneaking out
- Isaac sneaks up on Rekka and says something nasty as a joke, it depresses her.
- Group gathers outside. Cleric approaches from healing the wounded and asks what happens. Isaac feigns ignorance.
- Cleric mentions Araja being a wanted person. Rekka tells him that she is in the area.
- Group searches for Araja and lets her go once they determine that she has left the quarter of the city.
- Go to Tower of Power to crash party
- Only four supporters of Pendral in the wizard guard survived the library incident
- The party is tame, Courtanna incites rebellion while trying to see if they have ulterior motives.
- Chase down the four of them as they run to a secret power that Pendral showed one of them.
- Billy Grabs two, Isaac grabs a third (and is then pinned and vomited on)
- Gidian and Courtanna can’t catch the fourth, runs up an invisible staircase
- Fourth runs into room with glowing globes and tomb, starts channeling magic far beyond his skill.
- Rekka offers to help isaac out
- Fourth’s magic starts to missfire. (energy arcs)
- Billy knocks two guys unconscious and starts to help Isaac’s out
- Tentacles from beyond kill the fourth and nearly kill gidian. He is bleeding out
- Isaac runs up to help as Billy handles the third, but can’t find the staircase.
- Finds it just as Billy catches up. Billy heals gidian with the wand
- We leave the guys unconcious on the ground, and end the night
- Billy and Isaac count up the party’s wealth.
- Isaac divvies up 200,000gp to each person
- Isaac buys several potent magic items, including a 3 day commission to have a wizard make a Ring of Benign Transposition.
- Isaac hires a wizard use a scroll of permanency, arcane sight and see invisibility on him for permanent see magic and see invisibility
- Araja likes the idea of being able to see invisible and buys that as well
- Araja mentions that she is on some sort of bail and needs to stay in the city for at least a week, and we probably should too. I’m not sure I want to know.
- Courtanna comes back with some kind of talking horse. It wants to sleep in the inn, which is ridiculous. The name is Briar, or Lady Clip-Clop
- Rekka doesn’t come back one night, the day before the ring has been finished.
- Bar Wench remembers seeing Rekka finding a note in her bags earlier that day before she left
- Some asking around points us in the direction of the lower merchant’s quarter (slums).
- The streets in the lower merchant quarter are abandoned. We hear a scream.
- Billy runs over in the direction that it came from and starts beating down a massive door to a warehouse.
- No windows or other doors are visible on the sides of the building that I check.
- Billy breaks down the door with a massive crash
- There are five or six thugs in the room, along with Rekka in a cage in the far corner
- Rekka yells outs that we need to kill the thugs. Things get awkward
- Billy grapples the big one who looks like he is giving the orders, the rest of us start stabbing.
- One of the guys is waving a wand around, paralyzes Courtanna but wastes some charges on Billy
- Briar busts into the room and tramples a guy who was threatening Courtanna
- The big leader turns into a werewolf, giving Billy lots of trouble grappling him. (is wearing some magic items)
- Some rays of enfeeblement from Isaac helps Billy subdue the werewolf.
- Bar wench uses some acid on the lock of Rekka’s cage, releasing her
- We barely subdue the werewolf, Bar wench sits on it while we try to get Rekka to tell us what these men wanted with her.
- Bar wench gets bit (surprise!) and is at really low HP. The werewolf runs out through a backdoor.
- Isaac uses a wand of haste on everyone. Tells Bar Wench that he will heal her once they take care of the runner, she’ll survive.
- Courtanna, Billy, Araja and Isaac run after the werewolf
- Courtanna hits him with a few arrows, Araja misses with a magical trip spell, Billy grapples him (again). Isaac chunks him with Hubert.
- Walking back confidently, Isaac sees Bar Wench running our way. Remembering his promise to heal her, he gets out the wand of healing.
- Courtanna gallops past, confusing Araja
- Bar Wench has shifted, everyone starts freaking out
- Courtanna rides back. Bar Wench shifts back after being hit by a few arrows. Is unconscious
- Isaac teleports Bar Wench to the Jail, hopefully to contain her.
- Updates the head guard at the jail, they initiate a lockdown of the lower merchant quarter. Freaked out at the idea of a werewolf epidemic, Even if we killed the only one we saw
- They are freaked out about the idea of a NEW werewolf able to shift when it isn’t the full moon
- The rest of the party comes out of the Jail about five minutes later
- Apparently in the FIVE MINUTES Isaac was gone, they had incited a riot and black cloaked figures had started killing city guards. They lost Billy in the confusion.
- Everyone in the area was paralyzed by some sort of magic and guards started tagging people, which teleported them out of the area.
- Telepathically talking to billy, apparently he was handed a dagger and started stabbing black cloaked evil dudes. Isaac orders him to drop the dagger and hid himself, needs to force a willsave.
- Isaac teleports back to the warehouse with Rekka.
- Looks outside, sees guards tagging frozen people.
- Disguises self as a guard, has Rekka go super stealth mode. They both go to where Billy is approximately hidden
- Can’t find Billy. Give up and order him to come out, one of the black cloaked figures unfreezes and reveals himself as Billy.
- Isaac pockets a dagger and teleports back with Billy and Rekka
- After being gone for ONLY FIVE MINUTES, the jails is in ruins
- Bar Wench had escaped, eaten most of the guards and broken most of the cells
- The others who had stayed had subdued her. She seems normal enough now
- Courtanna and Gidian go to the court of the gods to look for a lycanthropy cure.
- Isaac ventures into the jail to see the damage, since the prisoners had been teleported into there
- Giant gelatinous cube wanders off through hole in the wall
- Lone villager survivor cowers in a corner, obviously afflicted by lycanthropy
- A gorgon and basilisk had escaped and turned each other to stone. Lucky break.
- Isaac grills Rekka about how she got into that situation, finds out the following:
- She is evasive about why she was in the lower merchant’s court.
- Sir, the werewolf earlier, was trying to get her to drink a potion.
- She did not know why Sir, or anyone, would be interested in her for her bloodline. She isn’t aware of what her ancestors are, or even her parents.
- Inspecting the potion reveals that it is a teleportation potion. Impossible to trace without using or disassembling, which is at a high risk of just destroying it
- Isaac throws the potion onto the gelatinous cube and watches the cube vanish. They threatened Rekka, and Rekka is his sister now. No-one threatens family
- Isaac talks with the last living guards stationed at the jail (who think he is a guard as well)
- Sardick and the guard that went to help the lower court have been out of communication for a little bit. He supposes that Sardick is in the lower court.
- The guard is pretty much overwhelmed, and about out of scrolls of sending
- Everyone groups back up in the court of the gods, catching up to Gidian and Courtanna
- Big flash of light is visible
- Gidian claims it was from a magic circle against perceived evil, or somesuch, and that it would destroy anyone who walked through it whose evil actions outweighed their good actions (regardless of intent).
- They had to do this because the clerics were conviced that Briar was irrevocably evil?
- Isaac chokes down a scoff when Gidian claims Courtanna, Briar and he had walked through it without dying.
- The clerics have a cure for lycanthropy, but it kills anyone who is a lycanthrope who wasn’t recently turned and often kills even the recent ones.
- Bar Wench turns down the cure. They require that she stays until the next full moon to verify that she has control
- Two clerics fly out to distribute the cure. One to the lower merchant and another to the jail. When they report back, the lycanthropy is very widespread in both areas and they don’t have enough oil to cure everyone
- Isaac uses a wish to create enough oil for the afflicted areas
- They are able to stop the spread of the lycanthropy, but at a high rate of civilian deaths
- Everyone calls it a night
- Isaac experiments on Billy with a new spell for controlling undead
- Isaac picks up his Ring of Benign Transposition the next morning
- The next day the party is firmly asked by the clerics to leave the city and never come back
Chapter 5
Summary
- Leaving Sardick’s city, we travel back to the Ogre pit to let Bar Wench thrash out her first full moon in relative safety. Takes a couple days to get there
- Isaac carries her down via boots of flying, then returns to the top
- The full moon comes and goes. Bar wench lets us sweat it out but doesn’t get all freaky
- Isaac offers to teleport everyone to Podunk. The weight/person limit is very close so it will take all three charges.
- In the process of trying to make everything fit, we discover that Briar can use Araja’s circlet of Alter Self to change into a human.
- We arrive near Isaac’s house
- Isaac’s house is about the same as we left it
- The living head to bed, exhausted from staying up late
- Billy and Isaac travel into Podunk to scout out the situation
- Outlying farmsteads are abandoned
- Unidentified armed patrols are moving around the central town area
- Sneaking back to an abandoned house reveals that it was left in a hurry, but no signs of conflict.
- Billy spots that the patrols are checking in on several houses near the center of town
- Billy and Isaac sneak into a house between patrols
- Back of the room is full of villagers and goblins
- Isaac tells the villagers to be quiet and identifies himself
- Shifted Werewolf is in the corner
- Isaac silences the werewolf with a well placed rod of immobilization while Billy grapples it. Billy eats his soul
- Billy brings the werewolf’s soul back and quizzes him
- There are 12 buildings, each with a shifted werewolf
- There are 6 patrols, each with two human form lycanthropes
- The leader is at the center of the village, making a magic circle that will summon something nasty at moonrise
- Isaac asks the civilians for information. A goblin steps forward
- Everyone had been captured and forced into these few houses a few days ago
- No one has been killed yet
- Isaac tell the villagers to stay put until he can send help.
- Billy uses the hat of disguise to look like the dead werewolf, Isaac goes invisible
- The first patrol comes. One comes in and they surprise him. Isaac cuts him in half. Billy changes his disguise to match. They then call the other patroler in and kill him silently as well. Billy completely absorbs a soul and gains lycanthrop-like strength
- They kill the rest of the patrols by having Billy surprise punch their souls out, with isaac ready nearby in case he messes up. It is super effective and they kill all the patrols
- Billy and isaac then start going house to house killing the lone shifted lycanthrops
- Courtanna rides up after a couple houses. Isaac directs her to start gathering the survivors and they’ll kill the leader once the underlings are dead.
- With three buildings left, the leader is alerted by Billy tripping and he runs to the house we were going to next. We skip it and wrap up the last two, then circle back behind the boss to take out the last guard.
- Isaac goes to warn the others that they are ready to fight the leader, but Billy is feeling pretty gung ho and insists that he can take the guy on.
- Billy uses his knowledge from the guard to get the leader to trust him, then backstabs. Isaac comes from behind, invisible, for the final blow.
- The magic circle is still growing in strength. Experience tells Isaac that it will probably explode with magical energy if we disrupt it now
- Isaac starts yelling for everyone to run into the forest and keep running
- Isaac summons a skeleton, orders it to start disrupting the circle after a few seconds, then runs as well
- Araja flies overhead for faster movement
- Shortly after everyone is inside the treeline, the town explodes
- The forest catches fire
- Araja is knocked out of the sky
- Rekka screams and is blinded (eyes gone)
- Healing dulls the pain but doesn’t restore Rekka’s eyes, the same marks that are on Billy are now on the backs of her eyes.
- Araja scouts out Isaac’s house, it escaped the blast but will probably be caught in the forest fire
- We regroup and spend the night where the fire isn’t headed
- Next day the fire is still raging
- Briar scouts out the crater, Everything is on fire. With some prodding she swears that some of the flames look like creatures she knew from pandemonium, but it couldn’t be
- We head to Courtanna’s hometown, through the mountains. On the way to Lupic’s city to see if we can find evidence that he is guilty that we could bring to the king.
- Courtanna’s homedown is abandoned, no sign of life other than overgrown houses and dying livestock.
- Courtanna goes into a distraught rage, pissing off still blind Rekka
- Briar smells werewolves everywhere, and from apparently a long time ago (lived here)
- Hubert detects evil below the ground, but Isaac and Gidian can’t find anything except food storage in Courtanna’s cellar.
- We head out to explore the town. Somehow Isaac is able to narrow our search, but I don’t remember the exact reasoning. Gidian stays at Courtanna’s house to maintain our safe house.
- First stop is a farm with a barn, silo and house. Everything is decrepit and abandoned
- Isaac goes to the barn with Rekka, Bar Wench to the silo alone, and Courtanna goes with Araja to inspect the house
- Bar Wench finds the silo overrun with a swarm of rats
- Isaac overhears people talking about how the group never came back and decided that they better tell the high priest. He wouldn’t kill them since they weren’t the ones who failed. He also finds a hidden hatch on the floor. Isaac runs back to gather the group
- Billy opens the hatch without a sounds and they all descend.
- Below is an altar to Erythnull and a table with food. the room is well lit with candles
- Farther down is a door which is chained shut and another door.
- Opening the non-locked door reveals a room with 3 hell hounds and 3 imps around a table with meat. A dwarf sits in a cage in the corner
- Isaac jumps on top of the table and blasts all the imps and hell hounds with dark magic, killing the hounds and two of the imps instantly.
- The last imp go invisible and turns to run, but Isaac can see through and kills it with hubert
- Rekka releases the dwarf, who asks us to release his companions in the other chained room (in dwarven). Isaac discovers that he knows Dwarven. Billy opens that door, and a group of dwarves cowers in fright. Isaac reassures them.
- In the next hallway another chained door is found. Starving goblins behind. They rush back and start eating the dead dwarf in the previous room. Isaac lets them know that it is one of the dwarfs right there and they should find something else to eat (like some of the livestock outside)
- Final hallway is dark. Next room has the three voices Isaac heard, and another figure. The newcomer eats their souls, then spots Isaac and throws out an ooze (somehow!?) before disappearing (teleport?)
- Isaac trys throwing in a buch of the mushrooms to poison the ooze, then blasts it with the decanter of endless water. Araja borrows a dagger from Rekka and blasts it with Shocking grasp, ruining the dagger. It explodes into bits that get all over her. She freaks out and depands that Isaac hose her down, which he does at full pressure out of haste. She strips off her clothes (stays decent via illusion) to clean it all off.
- Find a flame shooting rod, two rings and three potions.
- Courtanna finds that the platform blocks can be pushed, Isaac helps solve the puzzle with the strength of BIlly and Briar.
- Group gets stuck in darkness/illusion. Only Billy and Rekka are immune. Isaac uses a rope and Billy to lead the others out.
- Giant natural cave. Briar lights up the nearby area and Bar Wench uses the bullseye lantern to see further.
- Giant bats attack!
- Araja flys up into a group of bats and gets bitten badly
- Bar Wench can’t see very well in the dark and ends up hitting Araja with the flame rod
- Seeing Araja knocked unconscious in the air, Isaac uses his ring to switch spots with her, saving her life. Also ghoul touches a bat out of the air
- Araja is unconscious but stable. We can’t heal her, no idea why. Return to the dwarves. Eventually realise that it is her new ring. Take it off and revive her. Go back with the dwarves (who are curious about the cave).
- Reach the end of the cave. Find a gigantical planar portal, currently set for the nine hells
